So we went on a trip this weekend and I took 153 pictures, and I have to choose three for my blog! How painful!
This weeknd we went to see my grandparents. We don’t see them nearly as often as we should – they aren’t able to travel, so we have to go to them, and our lives have just gotten way too busy. So we made a point to go see them for Easter.
So, anyway, we arrived Saturday evening in time for dinner! We went to our traditional place: Jack’s Fish House.
My grandparents and their older, retired relatives LOVE going to the fish house together, and when we are in town on Saturday, we are fortunately invited to the party! None of us are particularly keen on fish, but going to the fish house is still an experience that we wouldn’t want to miss! We parked next to the sign, so I had to snap a shot of the kids with it for posterity.
Sunday morning, we went to church with my grandparents, of course! Then we headed to another tradition: Easter dinner at Ryan’s! Someday I’m going to get my grandmother to let me cook for her, but the day has yet to arrive! Then we went back to their house for an Easter egg hunt with a few other great-grands.
Here is Izzy on a roll! As you can see by his bucket, he was doing much better with collecting the eggs this time around! He would say “ehh!” as soon as one was spotted and make a break for it! He also found one of the eggs that had been hidden more difficultly (is that a word?) for the older kids – which made his daddy very proud! He later piled as many eggs as he could in his dump truck and “drove” them around! (I know there is a horrible absence of Ava in this paragraph. She did just fine finding eggs and proceeded to make “soup” with them that evening, stealing them from Izzy’s dump truck whenever she could!)
This morning, it was time to go – so we had to take our traditional, last-minute-pictures-of-the-family-because-we-don’t-know-if-we’ll-all-be-together-again. (I know that that sounds rather morbid, but my grandfather is 93, and although he is in excellent health, you really just never know.) You will be proud to see, since I’ve had some photography experience since the last photo shoot, I had the sense to NOT pose these pictures in front of our cars, which is where they have always been in years past!
(Sorry about the spots on Josh’s face, I have one picture that dosn’t have them but I’m not going to take the time to find it right now.) I am so thankful that my kids got to meet their Great Grandad and Gran-Gran. I’ve never had living great-grandparents. I hope that my kids will have the opportunity to get to know them even better!
We had a great trip, but it was a really good length! My grandparents house are NOT kid-proof, so we spent the whole time there chasing Izzy up and down stairs and escorting Ava to the bathroom. The only legitimate visiting we got to do was when the kids were sleeping, and, of course, then we were tired!
Well, I better go enjoy having my own bed!
